City of the Day - Plainfield, WI

Plainfield is a village in Waushara County, Wisconsin, United States. A tiny portion extends into adjacent Town of Oasis. The village is located almost entirely within the Town of Plainfield. The population was 899 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²).None of the area is covered with water. As of the census of 2000, there were 899 people, 342 households, and 230 families residing in the village. The population density was 692.9 people per square mile (267.0/km²). There were 373 housing units at an average density of 287.5/sq mi (110.8/km²).

An Environmental Working Group analysis of tap water tests from 1999 through 2002 shows that customers of Plainfield Waterworks drank water containing up to 9 pollutants. Plainfield Waterworks is one of 65,000 water suppliers across the country wrestling with treating water polluted by sprawl, sewage, factory farms, and industry.
