Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County.[5] It is the second most populous city in the state after Memphis. An Environmental Working Group analysis of tap water tests from 1998 through 2002 shows that customers of Nashville Water Department #1 drank water containing up to 23 pollutants, including 2 unregulated contaminants. Nashville Water Department #1 is one of 65,000 water suppliers across the country wrestling with treating water polluted by sprawl, sewage, factory farms, and industry.
