The 2007 population of Greater Omaha is 828,741. The 2000 Census revealed a population of 767,041, and in 1990 it was 685,798 representing an increase of 11.8%. It is estimated that the population will be 866,532 in 2012, representing an increase of 4.6% from 2007. In 2007, the median age of the population was 35.2, compared to the U.S. median age which was 36.7. The population density is 188.1 people per square mile.

Households
There are currently 319,444 households in Greater Omaha. The Census revealed household counts of 294,502 in 2000, up from 257,286 in 1990, representing an increase of 14.5%. It is estimated that the number of households will be 335,585 in 2012, representing a 5.1% increase from 2007. For 2007, the average household size is 2.59 persons. Income In 2007, the median household income in Greater Omaha was $55,805, compared to the U.S. median of
$51,680. The Census revealed median household incomes of $44,671 in 2000 and $29,967 in 1990 representing an increase of 49.1%. It is estimated that the median household income will increase 12.9% by 2012 and reach $63,012. In 2007, the per capita income was $25,272, compared to the U.S. per capita, which was $25,232. The 2007 average household income was $63,626, compared to the U.S. average of $65,273.

Water News

An Environmental Working Group analysis of tap water tests from 1998 through 2003 shows that customers of Metropolitan Utilities District drank water containing up to 26 pollutants, including 3 unregulated contaminants. Metropolitan Utilities District is one of 65,000 water suppliers across the country wrestling with treating water polluted by sprawl, sewage, factory farms, and industry.
