Garwin is a city in Tama County, Iowa, United States. The population was 565 at the 2000 census. Garwin is located at 42°5?41?N 92°40?36?W? / ?42.09472, -92.67667 (42.094635, -92.676653). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 565 people, 230 households, and 158 families residing in the city. The population density was 564.0 people per square mile (218.1/km²). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 247.6/sq mi (95.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.58% White, 0.88% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.77% of the population. There were 230 households out of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.0% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% were non-families.
